She also mentors women who want to understand real estate investing and build wealth through opportunities they may never have been introduced to otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When the \u201cSuccessful\u201d Career Isn\u2019t Your Life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monick\u2019s transition into real estate did not begin with a master plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She originally followed a traditional high-achievement route into law. But even during law school, her body was giving her clues that something was wrong. Stress showed up physically, and practicing law did not solve the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then came an unusually revealing moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After her appendix ruptured and she ended up in the hospital, one of her first reactions was relief: she would not have to go to work for a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That realization forced a bigger question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is the point of building a successful life if you are miserable living it?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes quitting is not failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes staying is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Real Estate Started With a Housing Problem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monick did not initially set out to create a massive real estate portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She simply wanted to own a home in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She found a property with multiple living units, lived in one, and rented the others. The rental income helped offset the mortgage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That first experience opened a door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later, she and her husband began buying and flipping houses. Then, while pregnant during the 2008 financial crisis, Monick lost her legal job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What initially looked like a setback eventually became something she describes much differently: a gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Losing the job loosened the grip of an identity she might otherwise have stayed attached to simply because she had invested so much time becoming a lawyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is one of the recurring themes in entrepreneurship:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The thing that disrupts your original plan can become the beginning of the better one.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Conversation That Changed What She Thought Was Possible<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually, Monick ran into another problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flipping houses still required constantly finding the next property, renovating it, selling it, and starting again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She wanted something different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then a mentor challenged two assumptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First: <strong>you do not have to invest where you live.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Second: <strong>you do not have to buy an entire property with only your own money and credit.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through real estate syndication, multiple investors can pool capital to participate in larger properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before learning about syndication, Monick had assumed that owning a piece of a large apartment building was something reserved for billionaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then she discovered that people in her own network had already been investing this way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her reaction was basically:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why didn\u2019t anyone tell me?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That question became bigger than real estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It became a question about access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You Cannot Choose an Opportunity You Never Knew Existed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At one investing event, Monick looked around a room of roughly 120 people and saw only a handful of women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person cannot seriously consider an opportunity if nobody ever tells them the opportunity exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monick went on to spend years helping women\u2014particularly women who might not naturally find themselves inside traditional real estate-investing networks\u2014understand how these deals work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her work through <strong>Real Estate Investor Goddesses<\/strong> focuses on expanding that access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is an important distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Access does not mean obligation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Learning about a syndication does not mean you should invest in it. Knowing about an opportunity does not eliminate the responsibility to understand the risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is not to pressure people into investing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is to make sure they actually know what choices are available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AI as a Thinking Partner, Not an Oracle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our conversation also turned to AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monick uses AI across areas like planning, marketing, operations, and idea development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her description of it is one I particularly like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>AI can be a thinking partner.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not the final authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not the person responsible for the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A thinking partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also double-checks numbers and financial information because polished output can still be wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That distinction matters enormously for entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI can help expand your thinking, challenge assumptions, organize information, and accelerate work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But confidence is not accuracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A machine can produce a beautifully formatted mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monick compared technology to fire: enormously useful, potentially transformative, and dependent on what the human holding it decides to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Financial Freedom\u2026For What?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For years, Monick had a major mission: helping one million women achieve financial freedom through real estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then another question emerged:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Financial freedom for what?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is an unusually important question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entrepreneurs can become very good at postponing their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will relax after the next deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Travel after the next milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spend time with people we love after the company hits the next revenue target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have fun after we finally become successful enough to deserve it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monick began deliberately practicing something much simpler: having fun every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we recorded our conversation, she was hundreds of days into that practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the examples were not all luxury vacations or expensive experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They included things like dancing, bubbles, pillow fights, water-gun fights, and building a pillow fort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That may sound small compared with a $400 million real estate figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It may actually be the bigger lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Portfolio Is Not the Point<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monick Halm\u2019s story could easily be summarized with the impressive numbers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Columbia Law graduate.<br>1,100 doors.<br>$400 million in real estate syndication.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those numbers are real achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But they are not what makes the story interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The more important journey is from following an approved definition of success to deliberately choosing her own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From lawyer to investor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From being unaware of certain opportunities to creating access to them for other women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From pursuing financial freedom to asking what that freedom is actually supposed to make
