It began with creativity, an eye for detail, and the realization that the skills she had developed in one career could become the foundation for something entirely different.

On Legacy Launchers, Lisbeth shared her journey from nursing into event planning and what it has taken to build Amour de Oké Events into a business centered on memorable experiences, thoughtful details, and personal connection.

Her story is a reminder that changing careers does not always mean starting over. Sometimes it means recognizing that the skills you already have can be used in a completely new way.

From Nursing to Entrepreneurship

At first glance, nursing and event planning may seem like completely different worlds.

One is built around patient care and high-pressure environments. The other revolves around celebrations, design, vendors, timelines, and logistics.

But there is more overlap than people might think.

Both require organization. Both require staying calm when things change unexpectedly. Both require paying attention to details other people may miss. And both depend heavily on understanding people.

That transition became part of Lisbeth’s entrepreneurial advantage.

Rather than abandoning everything she learned in nursing, she could carry forward the discipline, empathy, and ability to manage moving pieces into her work as an event planner.

That is an important lesson for anyone considering a career pivot: your previous experience is not wasted just because your next chapter looks different.

Event Planning Is More Than Making Things Look Pretty

From the outside, event planning can look glamorous.

Beautiful balloon installations. Elegant tables. Flowers. Perfectly staged photographs.

But the final image is only the visible part of the work.

Behind every successful event are countless decisions: coordinating vendors, communicating with clients, managing budgets, solving last-minute problems, and keeping everything moving toward one deadline.

The best event planners are not simply decorators.

They are project managers, relationship builders, problem solvers, salespeople, and creative directors at the same time.

That combination is what turns creativity into a business.

People Remember How an Event Made Them Feel

One of the most powerful things about the event industry is that the product is not just a physical object.

It is a memory.

People hire an event planner because they want a birthday, wedding, shower, corporate gathering, or milestone to feel meaningful.

The balloons eventually come down.

The flowers disappear.

The event ends.

But people remember who was there, how they felt, and what the day represented.

That makes event planning an especially human business.

Technology can make scheduling, communication, marketing, and operations easier, but the emotional part of an event still depends on understanding people.

Creativity Has to Meet Execution

A lot of people have creative ideas.

Far fewer consistently turn those ideas into something another person will pay for.

That is where entrepreneurship begins.

A successful event company needs creativity, but it also needs pricing, marketing, customer service, vendor relationships, contracts, follow-up, and systems.

The shift from creative person to CEO happens when you stop thinking only about the event you are producing today and begin thinking about the business that will produce the next fifty.

That means asking questions such as:

How do clients find you?

What makes your work recognizable?

Which services are actually profitable?

What can be standardized?

What still needs your personal touch?

And eventually: what kind of company are you trying to build?

A Career Pivot Can Become Your Competitive Advantage

There is a tendency to believe entrepreneurs should have one perfectly linear story.

They went to school for something, worked in that field, launched a company in that same field, and continued climbing.

Real life is usually messier.

People change industries.

They discover talents later.

They burn out.

They start over.

They combine pieces of several careers.

That can actually make a founder more interesting.

Lisbeth’s path from nursing to events gives her a different perspective from someone whose entire career has existed inside the event industry.

The goal is not to erase your old identity when you build a new one.

It is to figure out what parts of it belong in the next version of your work.

Building a Brand Around More Than Events

A memorable event company is not just selling decorations.

It is selling trust.

Clients need to believe that the person they hire will understand what they want, communicate with them, solve problems, and deliver when the date arrives.

That is why relationships become such an important part of a service business.

The brands that last are often the ones that become known not simply for what they create, but for how people feel while working with them.

Events.

People.

Purpose.

Those three ideas fit naturally together.

What Lisbeth’s Story Teaches Other Business Owners

The biggest takeaway from Lisbeth’s journey is not that everyone should leave their career and become an event planner.

It is that careers are more flexible than we are often taught.

You can take skills from one industry and redeploy them somewhere completely different.

You can turn creativity into revenue.

You can turn a side interest into a company.

And you do not need your first career choice to become your permanent identity.

Sometimes the experience you thought belonged to your old life becomes exactly what prepares you for the business you build next.

That is what entrepreneurship often looks like in real life.

Not a straight line.

A series of skills, experiences, risks, and reinventions that eventually begin to look like a story.

Watch the full
